Managing Tribal Chaos: Tools to Succeed with Shifting Priorities

Hampton Inn & Suites, Midwest City, Oklahoma (OKC Metro)
$685.00 per person

Working in Tribal organizations often means managing competing priorities, responding to community needs, meeting leadership expectations, navigating funding and compliance requirements, and handling the unexpected—all at the same time. Managing Tribal Chaos: Tools to Succeed with Shifting Priorities is an interactive workshop designed to help Tribal professionals remain effective when priorities change faster than the to-do list.

Participants will explore practical strategies for prioritizing competing demands, managing interruptions, communicating when expectations shift, setting appropriate boundaries, and staying focused during periods of uncertainty and change. Through Tribal workplace scenarios, discussion, and hands-on activities, participants will develop tools they can immediately apply to organize their workload, communicate priorities, and respond to change without losing sight of the people and communities they serve.

Working successfully with Tribal governments and Tribal organizations requires more than understanding procurement rules. Vendors must also understand Tribal sovereignty, organizational culture, communication expectations, federal funding requirements, and the unique environment in which Tribal procurement operates.

Training Tribal Cultural Competence: How to Teach Procurement to Your Vendors is an interactive, train-the-trainer workshop designed for Tribal procurement professionals, housing professionals, program managers, finance staff, and others responsible for working with contractors and vendors.

Participants will explore how to translate complex procurement requirements into practical vendor education without overwhelming vendors with regulatory language. The workshop connects Tribal cultural competence with procurement fundamentals, federal requirements, ethical expectations, documentation, and vendor performance. Rather than simply telling vendors what they cannot do, participants will develop strategies and tools for teaching vendors how to successfully do business with Tribal organizations.

“We’ve Always Done It That Way” and Other Things You Should Never Tell an Auditor
University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) – Las Vegas, Nevada
$995 per person
(bundle Training Tribal Cultural Competence: Teaching Procurement to Your Vendors for $1,599)

“We’ve Always Done It That Way” may be one of the most dangerous sentences in an organization that manages federal dollars. This practical, plain-language workshop helps Tribal professionals make sense of 2 CFR Part 200—the Uniform Guidance—without turning three days into a lecture on federal regulations. Participants will learn how to navigate the rules, recognize when a compliance issue may be hiding in an everyday decision, and understand the questions they should ask before spending, purchasing, approving, documenting, or reporting.

Using humor, realistic Tribal program scenarios, group discussion, and hands-on exercises, the workshop focuses on the situations that create audit findings: unsupported costs, weak documentation, procurement shortcuts, conflicts of interest, inconsistent practices, and the dreaded “that’s how we’ve always done it” explanation. Participants will not be expected to memorize the Super Circular. Instead, they will practice how to find the rule, interpret the requirement, apply it to the situation, and document the decision.
